Sorry, meant to come back and comment sooner, but just wanted to say thanks for this post, and the inspiration to crack on with my own TBR list too!

Just finished Farenheit 451 which has been on my shelf for over ten years! πŸ˜† Still trying to choose which one to read next, there's still quite a few to get through!

So many great books on this list and many on my TBR, too! Carmen Maria Machado’s story collection is one of my most treasured books of all time. I loved Couplets. And Julia Armfield’s Our Wives Under the Sea blew me away so I have Private Rites lined up next. (And thank you for the lovely mention 🩡)

We have such similar reading lists/histories!! I can’t wait for Julia. Like Megan N, she’s one I β€œmissed”… sometimes it’s nice when you realise an author has two or more books out and you haven’t dug into them yet, and now you have more than one read to enjoy! Thank you for AMPHIBIAN, it was a lovely time. I thought it was very Sapph, particularly with the ending, and I wondered where they would end up, in terms of their relationships w men or women or NB ppl. My own β€œpubescent girl besties” book I think should have had a little more Sapph in there if I have been bolder at the time, bit there are a few hints, I think. Thanks for your comment, Tyler ~ hope you’re having a lovely morning there in NYC! 🫢

Some excellent reading there!

I won't say any more at risk of spoiling things, but I reckon that The Husband Stitch by Carmen Maria Machado (which is in that collection) might be the best short story written in the last 10/20 years.

Oh my LORD that is an exciting thing to say!! I’ve just finished COUPLETS and cracked the spine of Megan Nolan’s debut. I like to select my reads from the pile by momentary whim ~ although I have to say Carmen will probably be within the next few reads. So excited for TOMATOES too ~ never before read! Thank you for the hint, and I’ll get back to you with my opinion…!

Hope I haven't set too high an expectation(!), but will be very interested to hear what you think...

A lot sillier, but her Law & Order one is also pretty iconic.

Silly is always a good vibe… πŸ˜‚ The Nolan is fantastic btw! Such wisdom in such a young β€˜un.
